LIFTING THE CURTAIN

Current call out:

Lifting the Curtain: On Audience and Authorship

25th – 26th October 2013, Institute of Contemporary Arts (London)

Calling all early career artist/companies/researchers whose work focuses on participation, interaction, and treating the audience as co-authors.

As audiences we increasingly find that our input has become indispensible to the process of performance-making. No longer sitting quietly in the dark, we have been pulled in and invited to take part. This two-day event brings together artists, academics and audiences in a shared exploration of the new trend. The event is co-facilitated and organised by performance company Accidental Collective, Chris Johnston (Argument Room/Rideout), and Duska Radosavljevic (University of Kent) and is co-sponsored by KIASH, CKP, and ETRN.

The event will have three distinct and interconnected sessions:

  • Session 1: Friday 25th October, 3pm – 5:30pm

Contributors to the event will deliver 15 minute presentations or papers about their work. They will also share a provocation and a question.

  • Session 2: Friday 25th October, 6pm – 10pm

The Argument Room – during this session a small invited group will discuss the topic behind closed doors, the conversation will be streamed online. Questions, provocations and issues which have arisen during the previous session will be used as starting points. For more information about The Argument Room please visit www.theargumentroom.net

  • Session 3: Saturday 26th October, 12pm – 3pm

During this final session contributors will respond to The Argument Room as well as continue to discuss and explore their work in conversation. This session will use interactive formats that adopt a similar structure to that of speed-dating.

We are currently seeking early career artists, companies and researchers to take part. To become a contributor please send: a 300 word abstract of your proposed presentation or paper (15 minutes); a provocation and a question; a short statement about how your work is relevant to the event; a brief personal statement or CV (outlining any affiliations and work to date); and links to website if appropriate.

Deadline: 1st October at 5pm.

Please email your proposal to proposals@accidentalcollective.co.uk

We are able to cover transport expenses where appropriate. If you have any questions please email Duska Radosavljevic (D.Radosavljevic@kent.ac.uk) or Pablo Pakula (pa67@kent.ac.uk).
