Here’s Hoping

Times are tough and the news is grim. Daisy and Pablo were in need of some hope, so they thought they should make a show about it. They wanted it to be a show about the triumph of hope, but it turned out that things are not as simple as that. They are knotted and complex. Hope and hopelessness hold hands. So this is a show about determination and resilience, about not giving up, about keeping going despite the odds. Hope is hard work, and it’s even harder when you go it alone – but perhaps something will happen if we’re all in a room together. Here’s hoping…

Directed by Roanna Mitchell, with lighting design by Jai Morjaria and sound design by Eoin Furbank.

Extra Information

If you saw the show at Theatre Royal Margate, you can find some extra bits that are relevant to Thanet here.

Here’s Hoping was initially researched and developed in 2015 with support from Escalator Performing Arts, and funding from Ovalhouse and National Lottery through Arts Council England. Our partner venues were Cambridge Junction, Quarterhouse, and Ovalhouse. This stage of the process culminated in four work-in-progress sharings as part of Ovalhouse’s FiRST BiTES season (November 2015). You can see some pictures of it here.

We wrote about the early stages of our process in Exeunt. You can read the first instalment here and the second instalment hereExeunt also published an interview with us ahead of the work-in-progress which you can read here.

Hope was one of the central concepts in our contribution towards Bootwork’s second book on DIY performance: DIY Too.

We have created a playlist for the project on Spotify: How the light gets in – Accidental Collective.
