Between
you and Me acts as an interrogation into what
it means to perform live, onstage.
This project has already undergone several
stages of development. In November 2006 the
piece was first introduced to an invited audience
in an open rehearsal. Taking this as an opportunity
to question and develop the material, Accidental
Collective then created a work-in-progress.
This was scratch piece performed on the 1st
of February 2007 in the Aphra Studio at the
University of Kent. The show was followed
by a question and answer session chaired by
Richard Kingdom (Fresh Festival). At both
events Accidental Collective invited feedback
and input from the assembled audiences, opening
up the creative process and allowing it to
be shaped by outside influences.
The resulting work-in-progress was merely
a paired down, almost naked, beginning. Using
movement, voice, music and their bodies the
company created a through yet simply presented
investigation into the links, differences,
and discrepancies between their lives, their
bodies, and those of the audience. We say:
I am here. You are there. It is only a couple
of feet. We ask: What does it mean, to be
here, in front of you, with my body, its hopes,
its disappointments?
